UB International Education Week

StaffBuffalo Administrative Assistant Lisa Gagnon recently shared about her experiences with the Fulbright Program at the University at Buffalo’s International Education Week! IEW is celebrated at UB to expose members of the UB community to the diverse perspectives of other cultures and, hopefully, to increase community members’ cross-cultural awareness, curiosity and knowledge.

Lisa was part of the Fulbright Scholars panel along with former UB Fulbrighters to Panama and Bulgaria and a visiting Fulbright Scholar from South Asia. They spoke to American students as well as international Fulbrighters studying at UB, before having an informal networking and conversation session over food. The event was co-hosted by the Fulbright Association of WNY/Northwestern Pennsylvania Chapter.

After graduating from UB with a degree in English and Linguistics, Lisa spent nine months in Riga, Latvia as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant. She worked in English classes from 5th grade to university level, initiated and led a weekly creative writing workshop, gave guest presentations about American culture, and even joined a local orchestra!
